Materials Needed:
5 Blank Index Cards for each participant
Markers
Large Blank Calendar
Flipchart
Tape
Tasks:
1. Distribute 5 index cards to each participant
2. Instruct the group to draw one insterest or hobby on each card. They will have 10 minutes to create their cards.
3.Once the group has completed their cards, they can show the group the cards and explain their insterests or hobbies to the group.
4. Have those that share the same interest "group" together. For example: if there are particpants that like music they can stand together as a group or hold up their music card.
5. On the flipchart, write that there are so many people that like music, etc.
6. Once you have "grouped" the interests (and there will be unique insterests as well) start having them assist you with designing their activities calendar. Keep in mind that activities can take place at any time and any where.
7. Once the calendar is completed, add the unique activities as 1-1 activities
Discussion:
1. When designing an activities calendar we rely on the Activities Assessment to assist us in desingning the calendar. How can you help us learn about what types of things a resident might be interested in?
2. How can you encourge residents to attend programs that they are insterested in?
3. Where can we as a team, learn about the various interests that residents may have or meet those interests?
4. How can we encourage families to take an active part in the interests of the residents?
5. Are there activities that residents have talked about that they would like to try or do that we currently don't have on our calendar?
6. Are there participants that are interested in doing a program with the residents?
