Community Resources - Home Town Challenge

Developing programs that meet the needs and interests of your residents, especially the “younger” residents of your facility can be a challenge. Some research in your community and on the Internet will help you develop programs that highlight your hometown as well as establish contacts for marketing your facility and your activities department. It will also assist with outings, current events, and unique programs for your residents and encourage your “younger” residents opportunities to assist you in programming for them.

Adult Learning Styles

In order to teach other activity professionals, it is important to consider the various learning styles of the attendees. Even when putting together an inservice, one will need to know how to approach staff, volunteers and indeed the residents of their setting. This home study course has been designed to review various Adult Learning Styles in order to develop a lesson plan for a particular subject.

Person Centered Activities
(1-1's)

Individual activities have traditionally been the most challenging programs that an Activities Department has to plan for. Now with the Interpretive Guidelines in place and it's emphasis on meeting the needs and interests of the individual, person centered activities has become a “spotlight” activity. Planning and investing in 1-1 activities that all staff can do takes time, creativity and a keen awareness of residents interests and skills. This course will give you the tools and the time to create programs that can meet those interests. You can also use the tools for your QA Studies.
